The scope of this check list

Many persons have contributed to this checklist. The authorship for each family is recorded in the header for the corresponding list.

This checklist covers the true flies, ie. the suborder Brachycera. The other suborder of Diptera, Nematocera (crane flies, midges, mosquitoes and gnats) is currently not included.
