History of Brage

A Vasa Home from the beginning of the centuryKarl-Magnus Sohlstedt, a saddler, (1858 1920) and his wife Henrika Sofia (1859-1937) had five daughters: Sigrid, Berta, Johanna, Elsa and Ebba. Through their business the Sohlstedt family were well-known among the towns people. Sigrid was one of the founding members when Brage was instituted in Vasa in 1908; Berta became a member as soon as she had turned 18. The sisters were active in various cultural and social organizations in the town. - As the five sisters died childless there are no members left of the Sohlstedt family in Vasa.A Vasa Home from the beginning of the century

In order to support the museum activity of Brage the sisters Sigrid and Berta decided to bequeath all their property to the Brage association. To honour the donors the museum has arranged the commemorative exhibition A Vasa Home from the beginning of the century "A Vasa-home from the beginning of the century". The interest of the family in rustic culture appears in the furnishing of their home. Some of the furniture dates from the late 18th century and were family heirloom, whereas some ornaments and objects of art which the sisters bought on their numerous journeys abroad are of a later date.
