Getting nowhere

Well, this flu I have seems to be a tough one. It's not serious but a very frustating, the symptoms are small but they are there and I can't deny it. I'm ok enough to work but not ok to do high intensity cycling workouts. Today was supposed to be the start of my racing season with a local Velotema-Cup mtb race, in Piikkiö. It would have been a short race with maximal effort. And that is not a good idea when you are even slightly ill. For Finnish speakers, READ THIS.

It is called a heart muscle infection, and you can get it if you do hard exercises during illness. The risk of getting it is not very high, but the risk exist. Lately I have been under a lot of stress and been more tired, so I thought that why would I want to take the risk and jeopardize the whole season? After all, it's just a small race and I'm focusing on two 24-hour races. And nothing is more important than your health, I think.

The reason that I'm not getting better is probably because of the general workload at the moment. The next weekend is important, I have to be cautious. If I'm not ok I will limit my training.

Commuting:

Wednesday: 0:51:38, 20.49 km, 23.81 km/h, max. 43.0 km/h.
Thursday (today): 0:43:07, 19.04 km, 26.50 km/h, max. 43.8. km/h.

It seems also that we have the windiest spring in the South Finland. The wind was really hard again yesterday, but it has been finally calmer today. This morning it was also very cold, about -4 Celcius!

In the blogsphere there is plenty of interesting reading, like this by Dicky. The movie 24 Solo is also now out and available on DVD, read the great review here.
