Spring frost!

A very stunning morning today. Not really unusual but doesn't happen too often.

The bad news is that I'm sick with flu (still did the usual bike commute and took these photos). There were preliminary plans for an overnighter at Marttila with Yeti but fortunately he also cancelled his adventure plan and we will try this later...

Commute trails are back!

Finally today back to my commute trails in the afternoon! Almost all snow has melted, and some of the trails were suprisingly dry. Of course there were also some wet spots and even one place with snow. But very fun to ride with the singlespeed.

A cyclocross ride

Distance: 40.31 km
Time: 1h51mins
Heart rate: 119/161 bpm (avg./max.)

After checking a little nervously the rain radar, I dediced to do a 1-2 hour ride with the cyclocross bike. Like the above parorama shot shows, there is not much snow left, and it is tempting to head out to the trails, but looking the forests more carefully it seems that it's worth to wait a little longer.

Nice ride today as I managed to ride before the rain started. Took some nice shots. Landscapes are my favourites and I'm practising to take good panorama shots.

Decided to not ride this "river"...:

Another view of the ever so nice valleys of Paimio:

I rode one gravel road that I haven't ridden before. As I stopped to take more photos I heard the sounds of cranes. A big flock of cranes was right above me!

The gravel road was really nice, twisting and hilly:

I have a few days left of holiday and will probably ride on Sunday, and maybe head out to those local trails.

A short Eastern ride

Distance: 20.91 km
Time: 58min37sec
Heart rate: 125/175 bpm (avg./max.)

After all the Eastern visiting I had finally today time do a short ride. The weather was also very nice, partly sunny and temps around +7°C. Decided to ride with the better mtb, as the adventurer/commuter and cyclycross bike still have studded tires.

It has been a very long time since I last rode with this bike. After the long break it felt really awesome. My other bikes are not bad but this is, at least for me, absolutely brilliant. It's light, fast, comfortable, the gears and transmission works like a Swiss swatch and the disc brakes are really powerful. It was a nice reminder that this bike truly is very good.

Here are some views during the ride.

The rapids of Naira:

The bigger gravel roads are in fairly good condition:

Looking forward for a longer ride next week!

Holiday report

The above photos were taken on 23rd and 24th of March. Two beautiful sunrises. The temperatures were around -10°C...-12°C. "The last breathe of winter". As I'm writing this, the spring is in full swing. A week ago it looked like it will take a long time for the snow to melt but now things look pretty good. Also, the first week of my holidays is almost over and I'm wondering why it has taken again so long for a blog or even Twitter update. But fortunately there is still over one week to go with my holidays, and here is finally something to read.

Right before my holidays started I felt that I really have to get some well deserved rest. I have not felt so tired for a long time. Now I'm starting to feel better and I'm really looking forward for a couple of longer bike rides. I did a short ride back home on Wednesday after I drove our car to service. The roads were really wet:

My plan is to ride on Sunday and maybe on Monday. Funny thing is that back in the late 90's and also the first years of the new millennium I did "an Eastern training camp", usually doing long road rides at least for four days. Nowadays I'm just happy if I can ride even one 3-4 hour ride. But, the weather forecast doesn't look too promising: rain. Just hoping that it wouldn't be so...

I have also played a lot of "head games" with myself about what events I can do this summer. I will do my decisions soon, and it looks like this year will be kind of "off year", as I have to concentrate on other things, but there could be still something nice. Stay tuned...
