Bright Noise Glitter Tutorial

You will need the following tools to complete this tutorial:
- Jasc Paint Shop Pro 7 and Animation Shop 3
- dsb flux Bright Noise filter [PSP 8/9 can use the native Add Noise filter at Uniform, 50%, Monochrome]
- Open a new image (File > New): 600 x 300 pixels, 72 ppi, transparent, 16.7 million colours.
- Set your background style to a light colour and your foreground style to a darker shade of the same colour (I used #E6DEED and #A284BC).
- Select the Text tool and set the stroke width to 1 in the Tool Options Palette.
- Apply floating text using a relatively thin font (mine is Edwardian Script ITC) - make it antialiased and about as big as mine at the top of this page.
- Go to Selections > Modify > Contract: 1.
- While still selected, go to Layers > Duplicate twice; you should now have three identical layers.
- While still selected, apply Effects > Plug-in Filters > dsb flux > Bright Noise: set the intensity to 50 and click the Mix button once.
- While still selected, activate your middle layer and apply the same filter, but click the Mix button twice to randomize the noise.
- While still selected, activate your bottom layer and apply the same filter, but click the Mix button three times.
- Deselect.
- Double click the Crop tool and choose "Select opaque area - merged". Go to Image > Crop.
- Save as a PSP file. [PSP 8/9: save as an Animation Shop file.]
- Launch Animation Shop and open the image you just saved (File > Open) - the three layers should be automatically converted into three animation frames.
- If not, close the animation, go to File > Preferences > Layered Files and select "Keep layers as separate frames", and reopen the image.
- Your animation is ready! To preview it, go to View > Animation. Save as a GIF file.
Tips: Besides solid colours, try using gradients or patterns. Add a drop shadow to each layer after step 10 if you like. You can also glitter an image or a tube: select the part you want to glitter and proceed from step 6 above.
