Staraja
Russa puppies
One of our main
breeding policies, now that there is a DNA-test available, is that we do not
approve of any matings that might produce DM at risk/ affected puppies.
We hope more DNA-test for inherited diseases will be available in the future,
so we can breed more healthier dogs.
These tests are great tools for breeders, there is no excuse for not using them.
In our eyes reputable breeders will be using these tools, why wouldn't we want
to breed more healthier dogs for the best interest of our wonderful breed.
We hope awareness among puppy buyers will arise...Ask breeders have they done
DNA-tests on the parents or puppies.
No one can say that they don't have it unless they have tested their dogs. A
simple recessive gene can skip several generations without showing up.
Before the test and knowledge of inheritance, no one can be blamed that some
have been so unlucky to have bred two carriers together.
DM is a terrible disease for the dog and owner, when they have to put down an
otherwise healthy dog due to a weakening rear.
Too many dogs have gone too early in the past decades due to DM, which people
didn't realise before, and thought of it as being a "normal" aging
sympton of an old dog.
Science is now on our side, and all breeders should test their breeding stock
before any matings.
It is also the responsibility of stud owners, that they test their dogs and
don't let their studs be used for any matings that might produce affected puppies.
The DM-gene inherited mode is simple recessive. So, we don't have to take out
the otherwise excellent individuals from our breeding program,
we just need to breed them with DM-clear tested dogs, and we will have gone
a step further for the better of the breed,
at the same time preserving the details and qualities an individual can give
regardless of their test result when bred to a clear,
and producing puppies that will not be affected by DM and give many years of
happiness to the owner.
