Professor Franzen participated at The 11th International Kyoto Conference on New Aspects
of Organic Chemistry (IKCOC-11) and presented a poster titled "Suzuki cross-coupling using different organoboron derivatives"
venue : Kyoto / Japan, November 9th – 13th.

October 2009

Dr. Victor Paul Raj (Institute for Chemical and Biochemical Research, “G. Ronzoni", Milan / Italy) visited us 23.10 and had
a lecture titled “Asymmetric Synthesis of Bioactive Molecules and Synthetic Methodologies involving
Arylation using Novel Palladacycles, Cyanation and Esterification of Aldehydes”

The paper titled
"One-Step Synthesis of Diflunisal using a Pd-diamine Complex "

was published in Central European Journal of Chemistry, 7(4), 818 - 826 (2009)


August 2009

The paper titled
"trans-Tetrakis(pyridine)dichloroiron(II) as catalyst for Suzuki cross-coupling in ethanol and water"
(T. Kylmälä, A. Valkonen, K. Rissanen, Y. Xu, R. Franzen)
has been retracted from Tetrahedron Letters.

As noticed also by other research groups the role of metal contaminants in catalyses with
iron chloride might explain also our confusing results. The catalyst activity might depend on
the metal salt purity as reported by S. Buchwald and C. Bolm in Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2009, 48, 5586-5587.
