Synthetic
Substance has 10 ambient tunes to download. Humming choirs with
spacious reverb and pop/rock beat in minor key. The sound quality
is good even with 128 kbits mp3:s. On his front page he is bidding
farewell, so you had better download now. Later you can decide if you
want to keep.
Scottish
Music Centre is an information center of all Scottish music (not
just the pipes and bags). They also have a sample player under the
title Seriously
Scottish. You can not control the player (except volume), just
consider it as a non-stop music radio. It is easy to click for extra
info about the track currently playing. Enjoy and beware: sooner or
later you want to buy something.
May 2006
I must have been busy or lazy recently. Or both. And the weather has
been nice.
Tubular
Tos has a collection of variable tracks. Some of his tracks feel
like a little too long, surprisingly, some of his short tracks feel too
long. But when he gets it right, he can produce some really exciting
music. I have an impression he has been developing his skills
fast. Listen to From Orion Star to
India Om Sakthi Mix. He builds a
harsh contrast between baritone saxes and bagpipes in ElectroJazzCeltic,
a strange idea, but works fine. You can test listen to them for free
and if you have not yet figured out how to record, you have good use
for your Mr. Underhill personality with the disposable email address.
(If you get an ad of "congratulations: you are the 50000:th visitor"
etc. just don't believe. There have been other 50000:ths before. I
guess it's a healthy idea to just shut the window instantly.)
In case you hated StarWreck there will be more to hate for you: Iron Sky. Coming
soon or some day ... perhaps.
In Red Hot Jazz
you can listen to old recordings of classic jazz music. The sound
quality is less than perfect, they are old recordings, of course.
Unfortunately, they are in format known to Real Player only and it is
one bad behaving player. If you have the proper tools, just feel free
to deprive all the autostarts it wishes to create. You will not miss
them.
Tim
Sparks delivers some 15 tracks of acoustical guitar and few other
instruments in meditative style.
In You Tube
you can see short hobby videos, some of them are music videos. The
picture quality is limited, sometimes the sound quality, too, but the
contents are sometimes exciting. Go, find Crazed Numa Fan if you like
weird things.
June 2006
Silhuetti
is a new band. The website is in Finnish, but just follow the titles ääni / äänet (=sound(s)) and välähdyksiä and peili ja minä (=the album
names). Then just take the mp3:s home. A couple of notes: there is no
use to make 320 kbps bit rate mp3:s if your microphones and other
recording gear are not of equal quality. Besides, the free stuff
downloaders don't deserve so much. Make 128 kbps files and only add
bitrate, if 128kbps shows problems. In the fast passages the singer
can't control her pitch perfectly, however, in the slower parts she is
pretty good and often takes the right pitch instantly. I hope she will
stand the 10 years more training to be perfect...
Sometimes things are simple: Google Videos contain lots of
stuff to spend your time. There is a music section, too. Unfortunately,
big deal seems to be some streetpunk hardrock metalblade stuff, which I
don't find especially interesting. Well, it's just searching and
scanning. And if you are punk fellow, why not jump in.
Time to declare the winner of the season.
The title belongs to Tubular Tos and his two
long but not too long tunes.
