Here are a few words about Seeds, the bonus CD included in Maggie Reilly's album Rowan - Limited edition. Angel Tears has news and other info.

Maggie Reilly's Limited Edition Rowan contains an extra bonus CD Seeds. I have already written about Rowan and it seems I can not exceed my then words. Seeds contains five songs, four times Maggie with an acoustic guitar, once Maggie a cappella. The ambiance is close and Maggie shows some jazzy habits.

In the opening Once I had a sweetheart Maggie alters a little the melody familiar from Rowan. The song is distilled to a very compact form with some 2:30 stature and every verse is essential.

The following Heartsong has just a bit more flow in its beat and Maggie goes on playing with alternative melody details. Towards the end Maggie builds up quite an improvisational passage. She has mentioned Ella Fitzgerald as one of her favorites and even they are different singers, this makes me think...

In The lowlands of Holland the guitar is absent and Maggie's voice is clad with ambient reverberation only. Once again she can control her pitch, beat and a group of sailors without support by instruments. There seems to be two (at least) totally different lyrics of Lowlands. Maggie sings some verses of this, not exactly, but quite the same.

Away wi' the faeries softly and cautiously starts ascending from the despair left by Holland. It builds up a little happy song with not much clamor. This is more meditative and dreamy than the Rowan version.

May you never is the different song on this album. Simple, poppish, a lot of repetition, nice beat, catchy. With a smart arrangement, a couple of instrumental tricks and very good luck this could make a hit.

It must be said, Seeds is for devout Maggie fans only. After listening to Rowan for several tens of times, it's a refreshing experience to play Seeds. And let me guess: the name Seeds points out, this is where Rowan started to grow.

Maggie scetch in pink

I just found this pencil scetch of Maggie.

A small piece of paper I had drawn a few years ago.

Then I played a little with Gimp to make it pink.
