Summer pedition 2011 to JP84 JP85 JP94 KP06 KP17 KP25 KP32

QRV 144 MHz from KP32XA.

Day 1 KP41KL-KP32XA 150 km LIDpedition nr 46

If somebody wonder where is LIDpediton nr 45 it was. Seems this time Murphy wanted join my gang already home. Tried to make YU7EF 11 el yagi but saw that boom material is too elastic so change plan for 9 el. Anyway SWR didn't drop down so forget that antenna home. So on the road and working 144 MHz NAC from KP31TW. But tank gasoline meter show only empty... Idea was good but no way to go up hill, tested it and clutch disc start smoking... So Plan B and went KP32XA, also not bad QTH. Saw that there was also last summer storm so now hilltop without forest See http://www.elisanet.fi/oh5lid/kp30xx_kp31tw_kp32xa_2009.htm former fotos.

So when made setup seems didn't locked 1st & 2nd tube over rotator and antenna turned around 180 degrees. wow stop point this time was around 240 degree and coax was very tight but didn't broke. Maybe tried to do it quickly because so many black flies wanted help me...

NAC worked 60 QSOs 28# 30.7 kilopoints. Quite ok but after NAC poor MS so went zzZZzz around 0120 already with set down.

Tight installation - tight coax.

Day 2 KP32XA-KP17UE 750 km

http://kansalaisen.karttapaikka.fi/kartanhaku/osoitehaku.html?x=356517&y=7454452&srs=EPSG:3067&text=KP17UE&scale=8000&action=link&mode=&lang=fi

Morning early wake up and already 0720 local on the road. Day was not cool, around 25-29c on the road. Taked also long nap so just late afternoon was in KP17UE. 1st reindeer saw when drive up last hill. During setup here also enought black fly QRM so can work multi multi. Evening rocks not too good - just 3 qsos on 4m and 1 test on 6m. But had also huge static QRM and was QRT long time.

KP17UE setup with dual band yagi for 50 MHz and 70 MHz.

M_ea_t the locals.

Thunderstorm nearby means heavy static.

Day 3 KP17UE pediton nr 47 total 177 6 m & 12 4 m qsos

Hole day on same QTH, this been hot and quiet, around +30c out and inside bit more, if sun goes behind cloudy then "few" blackflys want to say hello directly... Totally 12 QSOs on 4 m and 7 QSOs on 6 m  worked before NAC - so need change rig. Terrible 2 setup on the air, 2x cable chaos etc. Especially yesterday morning put FT-817 QRV when droved here true OH but not any QSOs on 2 m even few repeater opened also.

During NAC was also good 6m ES opening with 150 QSOs - total 167 QSOs 75# 355048 points. But was also sad to see what kind of hams we have - for example

Sure all extra stories on pile-up drop QSO RATE and when less QSOs then also smaller number of hams can work new # then if am in chat

Day 4 pediton nr 48 KP17UE-KP06wc 261 km

KP16CB on the road is also good QTH (earlier seen OH side sure Aavasaksa in KP16 good QTH and when drive more north KP26AX & KP27AB also ok for MS) night set down and sleeping around 0120-0720, then small drive to KP06WC, (small stop also on P place and morning swimming in Tornio river - cool...) 1st plan was XB but find that QTH also from google map. Good hilltop QTH and road to GSM tower. Sometimes was hard to climb up with my van but done it. Up here also some black flies even rocks and pinewood forest. Anyway setup done in hot wx and directly ES open to middle & south EU. 1st qso 1005z and then up to 1225 worked about 200 QSOs. Similar EU band polices wanted to be agn in pile-up to tell who call me - really don't work assisted QSOs so need to copy myself. Also some funny guy told that need to beam UK - hmm worked DL around QTF 210 so need to beam 230... my yagi is not so sharp... :)

1240z was also 2nd small opening tks PA2V to told it when was calling JT6M on 230. just 10 QSOs to G, I, ON,OK,DL,HB9 & PA so so quite wide one but quick stopped also... bit later new opening what was much longer so totally now 547 QSOs worked. Funny that somebody want to tell agn who call there CT calling etc... most of time it was s9 pile-up and I guess as much OZ than CT want KP06 so I take strongest - simply :) But band polices want to destroy ongoing pile-up and drop qso speed more down. Really every extra over on band destroy QSO possibility from somebody else.

Is assisted qso complete? during pile-up hear when somebody didn't catch my call and his neighbour tell it (they own language) so I wrote NC sure my log, with whom I had QSO he didn't copy my callsign from me so qso not complete, roger?

Evening set down and already bit driving next direction.

KP32 & KP17 were quiet QTHs but here saw 1 mopedist, he also didn't stop :)

KP06WC.

.

Röråkölen open model lean. Seems this part of Sweden been storm not long time ago.

Röråkölen lean other side, UFB  opening.

Just for hams before you ask that pse beam to England.

Day 5 pediton nr 49 to JP94QX 276 km drive

On the road saw also good QTH JP95RB (SD SC also ok)

JP94 who maybe need - didn't check ES logs

7 z was here already here but saw also bit problem with trailer tower... oops good that was still tower with me... anyway 08z was already QRV and ok ES opening next 3 and half hours with 380 QSOs. Yes 6m QSO RATE cant be high when many like to tell name etc, most of don't know who is calling...so 210 minute 380 QSO is not much but good start anyway. Specially when was looking time from WSJT when wrote log saw best answering my CQ 45 sec.

"Hey this is XXxXXX XXxXXX my name is xxxxx (2x spelling) my QTH is city xxxxx and sure locator still 2x spelling..... So this time was possible to work 2 other QSOs also. But 6 m pile-up is more beer drinking indeed...

Anyway saw that GB island pile'up is much comfortable to work than DL pile-up, so islanders are still gentlemen on the air.

After ES stopping MS activity was quite low - 13 stations in 3 hour so was time to close this pediton on JO94 1530z and start to plan next stop JP85 or 84. Total 405 QSOs.

QTH is quite quiet, just 1 car seen hole day.

JP94QX.

Tower want escape from trailer on the road.

JP94QX FB QTH except north.

Day 6 JP85XA 12th June

Pedition nr 50 JP85XA 110 km driving from JP94QX and here 18.40z but T-storm so will not make setup. Later it stopped and 2115z was time for 1st CQ on JT6M. 15 QSOs done before zzZZzz.

Thunderstorm been over already 1 hour now 0630z and everywhere is similar grey so seems now I have holiday middle of Swedish forest... But stopped enough around 8z and was time to operate. Not ES so MS/IONO day. Anyway 20 QSOs 1st hour is great
result - hope similar also during 50 MHz NAC :)

Somebody want to say that I am asshole when don't QSY CW. If I will ask some CW/SSB pediton to qsy CW they will tell that I am asshole agn. So I don't cure. I have nothing against those who like work only cw during pedtions, they may think also same way now if they can :) I saw similar discussion abt WSJT-HSCW 10 years ago on 144 MHz so I will not go back 2nd time same play. I have my plans how I will operate, if somebody dont agree that better that he QSY then.

But day was noiseful all time and without ES openings so made QSY next

JP85XA.

Someway good opening, South east.

Setup with Logitech headset.

Pedition nr 51 JP84WX 14.5 km driving.

So when lady ES think that 3 day good working is enough MS activity we can handle quickly maybe. Anyway arrived here 1215z and 1st QSO on log was 1301. Just RX difficulties due wx, thunderstorm still somewhere but more far. Also anymore not so hot evening and morning raining, just +15c - much more familiar indeed. This QTH is ok for 120-200, also not bad 200-270, north side we have still more hill quite much so not for aurora indeed :)

1509 was bit happy that ES opening is coming when Jurek SP9HWY was full period strong but nil. Anyway was monitoring most of time without audio because so noisy band and not nice listen lightning via loudspeaker so door was open and listening wx if it need to close station.

1st ES opening was 1506z when Jurek SP9HWY make strong full period here but seems that was all and NIL later, next possible was UW8SM 1529 but not stations, later 1546-1602 worked 23 stations before propagation drop down agn. That case using same freq for MS & ES seems fb. Just many "old school hams" don't want see possibility how much easier is work MGM than SSB/CW. As said - everybody can work what mode want. What mode I want work I make decision, not you our Pope. What mode you want work you make decision, not me or Dalai Lama (at least I guess so).

How to work WSJT (same for FSK441 and JT6M - about EME modes don't know)

When somebody call CQ - u sure hear it that you can answer - so answer with report => TX 2

then CQ station hear both callsign and your report and can go directly TX 3

so then you have both callsign and raport with R - you can qsy TX 4 RRR etc RRR

After that is 2 possibility what you can hear, CQ callsign or he answer already 2nd station TX 3

quickly isn't it?

Typos what CQ station normally make

when add new callsign and "GenStdMsgs" don't see that it jumps TX 1 even want it go TX 3...

Just all extra 73's or start with TX 1 take more time to make QSO complete and then somebody else maybe lost his possibility to work also new #. Sure both I and you don't want it.

......................

But how to operate? All good ideas welcome - for example 12th June 2011 JP84WX how I can make more QSOs when band is not hole time open. Your experience during expeditions such situations welcome.

Page 1 1300-1529 32 QSOs

Start 1300z with high QRN level and lightning not far away. Closed audio from radio because was more important to listen if t-storm is coming my direction. 1st sing of ES saw with SP8HWY 1506 but negative, next one 1529 with UW8SM - worked 1st JT6M and then SSB. You can understand why it is not necessary tell to me name and locator when answer my cq - sure during contest situation is difference

Page 2 1532-1709 42 QSOs

ES opening 1532-1603 - then QSY back JT6M and band opened agn bit but no stations or propagation gone nearly, so around 1630 bit more ES QSOs and when quiet QSY back JT6M, few MS/IONO and then next better opening

Page 3 1710-1830 45 QSOs

1717 band opened well and indeed today 1st good pile-up about half hour. Just 1750 all gone and back JT6M. next 40 min quite QRT life with 2 QSOs only, HA8FK game in well but no others. OH7PI via pure MS. 1829 next opening - goes page 4

Page 4 1830-1932 40 QSOs

ES opening was not good - just few times nearly pile-up but seems opening was quite sharp and when stopped around 1920z then totally quiet.

Video of pileuppia.

Log.

CASE DL9USA

Totally was QRV from JP84 7 1/2 hour, not much, 159 QSOs worked, sure I had still many empty pages left on logbook. I sure believe many hams monitored me but are without QSOs. DL9USA was on my log on JT6M 1512 UTC. Guess for many ham that is enough but this case unfortunately not. He was calling on ssb also when had bit ES opening. Sure big gun can easily destroy some other smaller possibility. So was that enough? Unfortunately no - he was calling again 1602z when next ES opening, there was other stations also on pile-up so sure he destroy somebody else possibility to work JP84. So was that enough? NO! Still later he must be chatting on freq when I try work pile-up. It is sad if own big gun but don't know how can shoot with it. Cant say how many QSO I have less on my log due that...

Day 7 pedition nr 52 JP84WX-KP25QJ 592 km

http://kansalaisen.karttapaikka.fi/linkki?scale=2000&text=KP25QJ&srs=EPSG%3A3067&y=7252237&mode=rasta&x=424567&lang=fi

Night was rainy and cold, day also when drive half road to home. Change also rig so 6m only abt 50-60w and 4m bit more - KP25 seems not most wanted on 6m so enjoyed more FSK441 and work when propagation is weak and hopeless. Anyway few QSOs made. Evening meteor level dropped totally zero so was time to stop this pedition and make last time set down.

Summa summarum

Problems - sure biggest one this time was http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_fly everywhere With radios nothing big, just Logitech headset listen time to time earphone audio and vox start to work. Generator had balance problem with small load - around 100w when RXing so had to put extra 200w heater for load and then voltages stay stabile. Hmm 200 W extra heating even in cabin was sometimes already +38 °C...

So I did my part. Now you can make your part. Minimum what you can do is update all most wanted sqr's every band where you are QRV to know where is vanity QTH's => http://rudius.net/mwd/index.php

What you can do next?

So some of those wanted sqr and make it active!
