Murmansk Convoy 2010 (as HMS Ulysses by A'la start Mac LID :) )
as I know - too long time to stay home is never been my 1st hobby, so out of MS major showers need to do something, why not to check out how many OIRT station is still QRV UA1N & UA1Z side, also same tour can look out some great future expedition QTH's
I had plan to start 24th morning, but evening 23th had head full of ideas abt trip so I just saw - no sleep and jump to van - drived city Joensuu 185 km for shopping, on shop parking place I had then good time to sleep nearly 8 hour...

After inspecting OH7HXH ham shack back on to road - really how to say - ghost road KP53-KP44 Pankakoski-Kuhmo-Suomussalmi because most of time just not any houses, just few empty school without snow works. Even my side is also much forest and few homes - can feel still that we are even bit alive. Center Kuhmo is anyway quite big (and similar like our S-E part of Finland - can hear much russian language).
After Kuhmo was sad part of tour. Even I know it earlier via Kimi OH7KIM - but hear
70.28 Radio Rossii Kostomuksha KP54HQso it is in band...
1st day was already still enough daylight to look futures new pedition QTH's (Been already QRV from KP41,43,53 &45 so not so much interest, also was today on KP42 but there I know QTH, and KP44 where was also - there is just small piece in county (parish) Paltamo where is possible to be QRV on 4m, other countie areas are forbidded)
KP46 start nice looking - company "Pölkky" have good opening place, then come Ruka, but that slalom center is too full built - not for real camping - many cottages anyway, more driving and find KP46HJ, that is UFB QTH, P place hilltop.

69.5 Radio Rossii Alakurtti KP56EXwas maybe too far away from road so didn't copy any signal when "sing in OH9" side. Seems next near ones will be more near LA side.
KP36 was guite good start when drive in - didnt recognise it before drive "down to Kemijärvi". after Kemijärvi all is quite flat but like KP36QU is "peat bog" not hill but also not any hill near here. So time to stop 2nd driving day - now 2144 local time 887 km done.

KP38LA Lohivaara is just after Porttipahta tekojärvi and when drive up there is old road right side is 60 mtr higher than Porttipahta lake, just wintertime without snowworks, anyway . Of course KP38RK Kaunispää hilltop is best one - if not QRM from other transmitter.
KP39MA Korppivaara is also old road east side what can be UFB to SW for summertime but east side is still more hill.. When goes road to Sevettijärvi there is KP39VD P place - after that road goes still more up - just is parking place? later KP39WF is with GSM tower 1st hill on the road, just not open road wintertime. There is been also "palovartio" fire control and over 50 mtr higher QTH than lake near that.
KP39WF map in karttapaikka.fi
KP49AG - check OH8K story abt that, later KP49DI goes to GSM tower but not snow work done and gate will be open in Kuosnauaivi.

Also Near Kirakkajärvi is hilltop QTH with tower but there is gate. On Näätämö is also hilltop road north side of village but didn't test to drive.
Sven LA6KJ & Helmut LA4OO thinking where is great QTH's in KP59
KP59AQ wiew from LA2K club parking place
KP59AQ Long : 30.04915 E (30° 2' 57'' E) Lat : 69.6876 N (69° 41' 15'' N)
South from Kirkenes is also other QTH with wiewpoint but is on KP49XK side
Long : 29.92519 E (29° 55' 31'' E) Lat : 69.44895 N (69° 26' 56'' N)
So need to drive 1300 km north to see open sea :) After chat period back on the road. Was really surprice in Storskog border crossing control LA side when lady officer said "terve, mitä kuuluu", she speaked also my language well - yep north part LA is many who speak. Russian custom was ok, just 1 hour and back on the road.
Russian side is still many place with old Finnish name like Salmijärvi, Rajajoki etc. Drove via Nikkeli - big mine city to see that all is death as hear earlier. Also heard that near lakes also without fish.Really parallel road Nikkeli was huge hill top road. Didn't look so much abt locators anymore because here is VHF activity already - and UA side 6 & 4 m is not for ham use. 1st is with TV and 70mhz with BC...
65.74 Pervij kanal Zapolyarnyy KP59KK 69.74 Radio Rossii Zapolyarnyy KP59KKEvening stop was on city Zapolranyi, I had great evening with Miska's UA1ZCT home with looong eyeball qsos. Today drive was 585 km so Zaporarny is just 1472 km from my home (not most direct road - when check few QTH's also.
Cool morning agn after well sleeped night. On daylight was great view road to Murmansk RZ1ZZZ club. 1st ham whom saw in KP69CI was Nikolai UA1ZOZ, really was nice to meet with him already 2nd time. 1st was 2006 Valdai ham camp where we were neighbours 3 night. KP69 have als many good hilltop QTH's but much military zone, so didn't look it too carefully. Easier to ask from someone where is good QTH if oneday will be QRV from here.
what a QTH ;)
Already early afternoon stopped on Murmansk after 178 km driving so totally 1650 km to here. Maybe even bit too early stopped so had looong time for relaxing, started early and evening had great eyeball qso with Dima UA1ZKI with his family.

So feelings were that well relaxed evening, but shower and to RZ1ZZZ club. So this week is been ham club day in 3 different time zone, monday local club OH5A, thursday LA2K and now RZ1ZZZ - really radio active week! :) After club meeting was time to turn car direction south and enjoy all great views - how to say, road from Murmansk to Petrozavodsk gives many good VHF expedition QTH's on KP68,KP67,KP66,KP65, it goes also via KP75AA,KP74AB,KP73 - so 665 km driven after start from Murmansk so trip total now 2315 km.
UA1Z side copy 3 different station, That Apatity-Kirovsk is unfortunately near on our band.
65.75 ORT Kandalaksha KP67FD 67.7 Radio Rossii Kandalaksha KP67FD 70.34 Radio Rossii Apatity-Kirovsk KP67QO
