RK1B/P after terrorist attack problem with elevation angle rebuild antennas.

KO79BW Zukozero...

Hi all de G8 terrorist!

Time to time we try make expeditions, but as seems nowadays it's totally difficult. For example u can image when read this story...

2nd June

23z I (OH5LID) start trip to UA side from KP41KL.

3rd June

01z was in UA custom. Just one customer looked my tower trailer and said, no entry, go back OH side... Really didn't even believe why, because that was my own trailer and all papers ok... so went back and tried 2nd custom - same result...

So 09z after 200 km and 10 hour made new start from KP41KL, just without any radios, generator, antennas coax, amplifier, pre amplifier etc, car was totally empty. So going expedition but for Alex & Anton it made huge new work to have all stuff we need. Seems G8 meeting is soon in UA side so all what is even little bit strange will be no entry... 1st time in my life can understand that living as terrorist is really not easy...

We had plan to meet in St Petersburg 07z, but as guessed, not possible. When I at least was there, RU1AS already visited in summer cottage, made set down with antennas and took all with him. Anton visit in RV1AC and took 2 kW gasoline generator. So all what I had was only transformer for 2 m stacking. Just our gain went much smaller, not 2x19el +11 m booms but 2x9 +4 m booms and 70 cm also not 43 but 21 el and power drop down to 50 W.

So start was not 11 MSK morning but 11 MSK evening when all was nearly ok to drive. Just I put my car to park and same time RU1AS car was fire after small electric circuit. So fixing on the road maybe 1 hour and again ready to go... Just after 30 km I remember that transformer is still in my car. We drove back with Anton RX1AX, who took it and back on the road. Meet Alex about 50 km before where was going.

Why KO79, not KP70

Yep, plan was go first KP70 but just find FB QTH here and stayed in early morning hours 4th June. After super long day all was quite tired and just one by one made sleep. so setup was quite difficult to make. 1st time tower didn't want to go up at all, dropped back to ground and poor antennas... Then we made 3 meter shorter version and then at least evening we had up 2x9 for 2 m and 21 for 70 cm. But some line problems and signal was just nothing (need to put 2 m RX coax next time correct place, was in 70 cm hole as seen later... ) so we went sleep and thing that next morning better look all works.

5th June

Morning was not too beautiful at all. Seems some another terrorist visited in our QTH, just take 1 rope away from tower. so it fall down over Alex van. Anyway we were lucky that it was "western rope" because if it was northern all antennas was in tent... Most of antennas broke, just FB Alex had 1 yagi for spare parts. so morning we fixed all and once again but problems with elevation etc, aluminium don't like too much drop down it seems from the air. Now it works at least anyway! So time to try even something. We just learn here one new bad word, it's "KO79", just Alex visit here once, 1 QSO and radio broke. I visit here once, see story another page in web...

Just night was rainy and Anton forget his clothes out, so morning had only dry pants ;) But that is KO79...

Some QSOs already we had possible to make before went huge T-storm, so now is good time again to write story during 5-6th June night and listen thunder outside. Just evening I saw great pileup, slept 5 hour and that time had in GSM 14 SMS ;)

6th June

At least huge t-strom went away and again QRV. But all rock was very hard to find, and not yet nothing great MS shower can expect. Just early morning was only cloudy but hole day rainy, little bit all time but nothing great for camping situations really. Early evening was good aurora opening, but after few min pre amplifier blow up... so also PTT was there. So need to make new PTT and all coax lines change. So when again QRV aurora was greatly gone... After NAC was not bad MS condx, unfortunately short...

7th June

Morning we tested work as OH5IY program count (TKS Catharinus PE1AHX for counting, both PC that we had was without MS50...but this is KO79...), but south and east was totally quiet. Just when turned back to west side even something. Just hope all find Shouts, because time to time huge pileup with SMS. (specially when sleeping) and not too much interest to write all info so many time. Really hope next time we can update more often. Shouts was great, didn't need write same thing to so many another peoples, just 1 time and all can see it. Also that way was more comfortable than DXC or CHAT, because info is easy to see from one side only. some another place it QSY quite quickly, if many user give DX tips or chatting.

Daytime was Arietids max it seems. And can guess, we heard much, even during QSO many with whom we didn't had QSO going on... But something what we start to hear that our signal was not decodeable, so what a hell... KO79 of course. Just like earlier aurora. So we found 1st broken ground contact, made 1 spare also, drop all levels but didn't help. So next thing was change PC. When all was made also hard rocks was not too much more on the air and evening was quiet. After sunny afternoon temperature also went down and night roof of tent was white - frozen. So we thing summer expedition but next time thing as winter one when plan what need to take with...

8th June

Wake up it's a beautiful morning, already 1 day without rain, weather not too bad and maybe half million mosquitoes here as usual. Anyway our 12 V freezer also works well, all food was frozen there ;) Day was very boring, logbook didn't went full at all, morning best time 5 hour CQ in 388 & 370 for nothing. Evening was not much better the eighth. Just again frozen night but it give our last QSOs. Just my 700 MHz notebook didn't want WSJT 20 hour without reset, so decode went late and late ant then not at all, just in QSO DJ9YE made restart but shut down took huge time, was almost 10 min QRT... But great new start and made C QSO at least ;)

9th June

Morning made set down and back to home. Alex & Anton was afternoon and I also around 20z, warm shower is great thing!

Results

About 2000 km totally driving, balance again how much need operators and how much need generator, so beer and gasoline 60/60 litre, every operator sometimes frozen well - KO79 Russian summer.. But we are still alive, and seems that was not last expedition, even need to say most difficult one indeed.
