About the artist

Antti-Ville Reinikainen (b. 1980) spent his childhood summers in the islands of south-western coast. The environment provided vast possibilities for play and imagination. The summer house was a old rectory built in the 17th century. In the attic there was a multitude of old items, a strange mix of fragments from past and present inhabitants. It was there in the dusty attics, on the stony beaches, under the shadows of great hardwoods the tendencies for fine arts started to take place.

In 2001 he started his arts studies having previously practised art on his own. Being the easiest way to start developing his own language in art, he started primarily as a painter but then gradually shifting to other grounds.

The main point has always been the idea not the technique. Institute of Fine Arts in Lahti provided a great place for practicing the possibilities behind different techniques.

In 2005 right after graduating from the Institute of Fine Arts he continued to complete Masters of Arts - diploma in University of Arts and Design. While the experience of studying in the smallest department, MA of Fine Arts, of this design-oriented environment wasn't as pleasant as it could have been, it derived a good handful of strong relationships with other artists.

After graduating in 2007 Antti-Ville Reinikainen has been operating as an independent artist. He currently lives in Helsinki, Finland.

To celebrate his 30th anniversary this year, he is going to run Helsinki City Marathon under four hours.
