Weeks 1-10
Finnish winter and its low lights have been depressing. In southern Finland it has been exceptional amounts of snow this winter, so mostly I have taken photos of snowy landscapes. Birds I have photographed only few times.

Near my office a flock of waxwings (Bombycilla garrulus) spent a couple of weeks and I visited the place during my lunch time. Occasionally birds were also feeding on the ground eating something from cars tracks.

It has been a catastrophic winter for owls because vole populations are down and there is also a thick snow layer on those few voles still living. The Tawny Owl (Strix aluco) below was tame (= starved) and spent two weeks near my office. Dipper (Cinclus cinclus) was photographed, when I was testing my new 7D and its autofocusing.

Week 45
I spent a family holiday in Portugal. I was watching birds only in early mornings when the rest of the family was still asleep. One day was dedicated for bird photography and I spent that day in Castro Verde. Below there are some photos from this week.

Sanderling (Calidris alba), Sanderling, Curlew Sandpiper (Calidris ferruginea) and Turnstone (Arenaria interpres).

Stonechat (Saxicola torquata), Stonechat, Thekla Lark(?) and Thekla Lark (Galerida theklae).

Yellow-legged Gull (Larus michahellis), Black-winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus), Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis) and Azure-winged Magpie (Cyanopica cyana).

Red-legged Partridge (Alectoris rufa), Black-winged Kite (Elanus caeruleus), Red Kite (Milvus milvus) and Great Bustard (Otis tarda).

Weeks 32-38
My photographing has been mostly taking pics of landscapes, insects etc. Also bird ringing has taken time. I have updated also quite much my photos on bird pages. But here are few photos to tell, that I am still alive and updating my pages also here. Below there are flight photos of Sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus), Caspian Tern (Sterna caspia) and Rock Pipit (Anthus petrosus), all taken in Finnish archipelago.

On the mainland I photographed Great Grey Shrike (Lanius excubitor). Finally I found a tame individual, although the environment was not the best possible for the picture. I also found a new place for Ruddy Darter (Sympetrum sanguineum) in Finland. This species is rare in Finland, and is known only from few places.
