PALOKAN KIRKON TEKSTIILIT

Jyväskylän maalaiskunnassa sijaitseva Palokan kirkko vietti 25 juhlavuottaan syyskuussa 2003. Juhlan kunniaksi kirkkoon tilattiin uudet tekstiilit .

Suunnittelin ja valmistin 5 liturgisen värin sarjat: Valkoisen, vihreän, punaisen, violetin ja mustan. Kukin sarja sisältää alttarivaatteen, kirjaliinan, 2 kalkkiliinaa, 3 stoolaa ja kasukan, yhteensä 37 tekstiiliä sekä 3 haavia.

PUU - JUMALAN TAHDON MUKAINEN ELÄMÄ

Palokan kirkon ikkuna korvaa alttaritaulun ja luonto tulee osaksi kirkkosalia.

Getsemanen, Paratiisin ja syntiinlankeemisen -teemasta yhteisiksi vertauskuviksi kaikkien värien antependiumeihin valittiin puu. Vihreässä mänty, valkoisessa koivu, violetissa omenapuu, punaisessa lehmus sekä mustassa kuollut "epäpuu". Puu on Jumalan tahdon mukaisen elämän vertauskuva. Puun vaiheet vuoden eri aikoina viittaavat elämään, kuolemaan ja ylösnousemukseen. Paratiisin hyvän ja pahan tiedon puusta veistettiin legendan mukaan Kristuksen risti, josta sitten tuli kristityille elämän puu. Puun taivaallinen hedelmä on Pyhän hengen viisaus, josta ihminen pääsee sakramenteissa osalliseksi.

KAUNEUS - RAKKAUS -PYHYYS

Liturgisten tekstiilien toteutus vaatii paljon ajattelua ja tietoa. Mutta se ei riitä. Kirkossa käsitellään maailman tärkeimpiä asioita, syntymää, elämää ja kuolemaa, uskoa, totuutta, armoa ja pyhyyttä. Näistä pitäisi saada ripaus tekstiileihin mukaan.

Kauneus ja rakkaus ovat mielestäni lähes synonyymejä, pyrkimällä kauneuteen voi ehkä astua myös askeleen kohti pyhyyttä.

THE LITURGICAL TEXTILES IN CHURCH OF PALOKKA, FINLAND

Church of Palokka is located in the county of Jyväskylä. The church spent it´s 25´th anniversary in September 2003. To honor the celebration new liturgical textiles were ordered for the church.

I designed and produced five color series of liturgical textiles: white, green, red, violet and black. Each series includes an antependium ( textile for the altar), pulvinarium ( textile for the pulpit), 2 velums (textiles for the chalices), 3 stolas and a clergyman´s robe, alltogether 37 textiles and 3 offertory bags.

A TREE - A LIFE UNDER GODS WILL

In church of Palokka a window replaces the altar painting and therefore nature is strongly apparent in the church.

The themes from Getsemane, paradise and the fall of man was chosen as a mutual symbol for all the altar textiles in five colours. Tree in green is the pine, in white the birch, in violet the appletree, in red the linden and in black a dead "non-tree". A tree is a symbol of life under Gods will. The different phases of a tree in different seasons symbolize life, death and resurrection. By the legend the cross of Christ was carved from the paradise tree of good and bad knowledge, which came to symbolise the tree of life for christians. The heavenly fruit of the tree is the wisdom of the holy spirit that is given for the people in the sacrament.

THE BEAUTY - THE LOVE - THE HOLINESS

It requires a lot of visual thinking and knowledge to make of liturgical textiles - but , is not all you need. In the church the most important things in the world are considered: the birth, the life and the death, the faith, the truth, the mercy and the holiness. The liturgical textiles should consist and reflect these aspects among others too.

I think that the beauty and the love are nearly synonymes. By achieving the beauty you might also get a step closer to the holiness.
